Remove addon packs in Tata Sky: Fast and Economical way

The main problems with services is in India is that they do everything when you give money to them. But, when it comes to unsubscribing from a service, say “Lifestyle Gold” or “Cosmo Pack”, you need run from pillar to pillar to get that done. Similar case with TataSky DTH. Adding a new channel pack is as simple as clicking a button on their web site. Also, just SMS from RMN(Registered Mobile Number) upgrades to higher package or Addon Pack within a matter of seconds. But, they do not give options to downgrade your base package or remove add-on packs. Normally, subscribers opt for Sports packages like Star Sports, ESPN,Ten Sports when there is cricket and add the corresponding package in matter of seconds.

But, when the cricket ends and want to delete that package, it’s not as easy as they did for adding that channels. You must call their Customer helpline. They ask several questions before they drop that package. For this reason, we can’t use the 5 minutes toll-free number as it gets disconnected before we talk to the customer reps.

Following is a simple way to avoid these:

  1. Login into your account.
  2. Then go to “Contact Us”
  3. Select “My Query” in that section
  4. In “Nature of query/complaint” select “Channel/Package”
  5. Select “Type” in “Drop Sports Package”. The sports package gets dropped.

For other ad-dons they call us and drop the packages.

    Tata Sky services are poor. They tried to misguide the customer. First they try not to answer by email reply. They always computer reply “Our Representative will speak to you”.
    They do not indicate correct expiry date of package. When you opt they ask you to opt for Semi-annual, annual and monthly packages.
    When you want any service “minimum recharge they say is Rs.200/- irrespective of balance in your credit.
    When opted pack expires, you will observe that the balance is siphoned on the basis of “Daily basis”.
    If sufficient fund is available, Tata Sky has got the adocity to deduct “FULL Value” of pack as renewal.
    You always receive an SMS stating that they are “DELIGHTED” to serve. Practically they will not reveal the subject or what they did? Even at their mistakes they are DELIGHTED.

    Whatever you speak overphone, the customer care at the end of the conversation, what channels you opt, Sir. When you insist for reply in writing, you find they do not reply for deducting unauthorised charges.
    I have sent email to their CEO, at his email: vikramk@tatasky.com.
    Reply is ” you get a call from Bangalore to say that some one from Hyd will speak as if it is an announcement on platform before arrival of train. The job of Bangalore of Vikram is over.
    As usual Hyderabad Tata Sky does not want to accept their mistake.
    In my case, I got reversed Rs.2600/- unauthorised deduction without my consent and got refund of Rs.3100/- transferred through net.
    Tata Sky drops channels as their whims and fancy. NDTV Hindu they advertised in their phamphlet does not come full screen on Tata Sky. On enquiry I find that we have to go to NDTVX24 and press RED Button. Then also hlf-screen only will come. No answer from Tata Sky for this. In stead of this, you can get the same channel, NDTV Proft, NDTV Hindu, CN-18 on your computer through internet, by applying for unlimited packs of BSNL etc.

    Tata Sky has to improve on the following grounds, if they want to survive in the market:
    i) Options should be clear on internet on their web site.
    ii) The expiry date of each pacakage or channel added should be shown clearly in customer accounts
    iii) It should be possible to transfer exact money to our account for USAGE and not higher amount.
    iv) When Tata Sky technician comes for installation, invariably he tries to avoid giving CUSTOMER COPY. It is marked CUSTOMER/TATASKY COPY.
    Actually there are three bar coaded stickers on your DIGI BOX Pack. The Tata Sky Installation Team has to fix one on their copy and the other on customer copy and leave one label on Box. Without doing this, they are trained to hoodwink the customer, by not giving copy. BUT WHEN I REFUSED TO SIGN, he prepared one copy, fixed BAR CODED LABEL and gave it me. When their supervisor came after installation, when I pointed out and shown my copy as demaded by me, he has no reply. Later also, I find no improvement in supplying copy to customer.
    Recently the technician came for poor picture quality but could not rectify signal quality beyond 30-40%. He did not give copy of Service sheet as a proof of his visit to us. Tata Sky is encouraging this type of unhealthy practices.
    We do not recommend Tata Sky in view of unsatisfactory services.

    Thanks a ton for your post. Was able to remove Star cricket.Do not expect this from a Tata company that it is very easy to add on channels and most difficult to remove!!! Is very unethical and unprofessional. Hope someone is listening.
